Giving Back to the Community

Getty Owl Foundation

The Getty Owl Foundation raises awareness for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), the #1 genetic killer of infants under the age of two. SMA is an inherited disease that causes progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. Arriving at six in the morning at Crocker Park in Downtown Sacramento, we get everything ready to help out with one of the foundation’s most popular events. We help put up tents, set up stations, organize and work the t-shirt tent, hand out the goody bags, and of course, help clean up. This is a wonderful experience for all of us to be able to see a community come together and raise awareness for this disease. We even get to meet Getty! We cannot wait to return to next year’s race and help raise awareness.

Relay For Life

The Relay For Life is an event that the American Cancer Society sponsors to raise money for cancer research. At this event, relay teams camp out overnight taking turns walking around a track. Each team is encouraged to have at least one team member walking at all times to symbolize the fact that cancer never stops. On April 13th, 2013 we participated in our first Relay For Life, since then we have made it a goal to come out every year! This is a very touching experience for us all as we support those affected by cancer.

Breast Cancer Walk

"Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" is an event that the American Cancer Society sponsors to help end Breast Cancer. The event starts in the morning with over 5,000 participants every year who arrive at the state capitol to begin the three to five mile walk/run. In the past, there have been 612 teams and 5,845 participants. This single event helps raise hundreds of thousands of dollars. One year, this event raised $250,995.17! We are so blessed to be a part of this great cause. We look forward to making more strides in the future!
